Furnace Not Turning On? We can help!
Above All Heating And Air Conditioning / March 6, 2024 / Furnace Repair, Furnace Service, HVAC Services
It’s cold out and a broken furnace can be very uncomfortable. There are several potential reasons why your furnace might not be turning on. Here are some common issues to consider:
- Thermostat Settings: Check to make sure your thermostat is set to heat mode and set to a temperature higher than the current room temperature.
- Power Supply: Ensure that the furnace is receiving power. Check the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the furnace to see if it has tripped or blown.
- Pilot Light or Ignition: If you have an older furnace with a pilot light, make sure it is lit. For newer furnaces with electronic ignitions, ensure that the ignition system is working properly.
- Air Filter: A dirty air filter can restrict airflow and cause the furnace to overheat and shut off. Check the air filter and replace it if it’s dirty.
- Thermocouple: If you have a gas furnace with a pilot light, the thermocouple may be faulty and preventing the furnace from staying lit.
- Blower Motor: The blower motor circulates air through the furnace. If it’s not working, the furnace may not turn on. Listen for the sound of the blower motor when the furnace should be running.
- Limit Switch: The limit switch prevents the furnace from overheating. If it’s faulty, it may shut off the furnace prematurely.
- Flame Sensor: For gas furnaces, a dirty or malfunctioning flame sensor can prevent the furnace from igniting properly.
- Control Board: The control board regulates the operation of the furnace. If it’s faulty, it may prevent the furnace from turning on.
If you’re not comfortable troubleshooting these issues yourself, please contact us and we will have a professional HVAC technician out to diagnose and repair the problem. They will have the necessary tools and expertise to safely address the issue and get your furnace up and running again.
